A sneak peek into the workshop process
Led by Genevieve Gearhart and Julianne Just of The Speakeasy Society
Tuesday, May 22 7pm-1030pm at Thymele Arts (5481 Santa Monica Blvd.)
The process of creating an immersive performance is almost impossible to explain- its something that needs to be experienced. In "Diving in", Artistic Directors Genevieve Gearhart and Julianne Just will guide you through a hands on experience of the generative process used by The Speakeasy Society.
In many of their projects, The Speakeasy Society works collaboratively with performers to generate a combination of physical and narrative moments in order to more deeply understand a text. Ultimately, some of these elements evolve into portions of their productions.
Participants will be asked to familiarize themselves with a chosen source text in advance of the workshop, which will be used to generate material in a variety of individual and group exercises.
This workshop will focus on generating quickly and fearlessly, while giving you a taste of how The Speakeasy Society creates and collaborates with performers.
Enrollment is limited. Bring clothes you feel comfortable moving in, as well a paper and pencil.
